2009 AEOLIA AND NANTUA 'LES DEUX' CHARDONNAY VINTAGE RELEASE

2009 was a vintage of mixed blessings - not such a good one for us at Giaconda, but good for you our loyal mail order customers. A rather hot dry vintage has made me decide to reclassify some of the wines, while they are still of very good quality, you will now get the chance to buy them at advantageous prices! In this release we have all the Estate Chardonnay going into the 2009 Nantua Les Deux Chardonnay blend; the result being probably one of the best ever.

All the 09 Shiraz will be released under our McClay Rd label and the larger than normal quantity of this wine will see it released to mail order for the first time in November 2010. I am confident of the quality of the 2009 Aeolia (Roussanne). It performed well in this vintage and is released below. The 09 Cabernet is also excellent and will be included in our November 2010 pre-delivery release.

2009 Aeolia is now 97% Roussanne & 3% Marsanne from the Warner vineyard and is totally barrel fermented with about 10% new oak. 2009 vintage is very similar to 2008 which we believe was probably one of the best Aeolias' to date. However the addition of the small amount of marsanne has added another dimension. Aeolia was the ancient name for the coastal region of Northwestern Asia Minor (now Turkey). It was made up of a group of cities founded by the Aeolians c.1100 BC.

2009 Nantua 'Les Deux' Chardonnay is a blend of 93% Chardonnay and 7% Roussanne. This year all of the chardonnay from the Estate Vineyard at Giaconda is included in this blend with the balance of chardonnay and roussanne from the Warner vineyard. Again totally barrel fermented with about 30% new oak. It is an impressive wine and excellent value as it includes the Estate Vineyard chardonnay. It is the only chardonnay from 2009. Nantua 'Les Deux' was first produced in 2000 and the name drew inspiration from the two swans that appear on the label and the two varieties from which it is made.

NEXT RELEASE November 2010
The next release on November 1, 2010 will feature the 2010 en primeur offer and the pre-delivery release of 2009 Cabernet together with the reclassified 2009 McClay Rd Shiraz, 2008 McClay Rd Cabernet (reclassified 2008 vintage) and finally our first release of nebbiolo - 2008 Giaconda Nebbiolo.
